NGRT

New Group Reading Test

NGRT is a highly accepted and standardized test across schools whose primary function is to assess the reading skills of students. It is set for children aged 6 to 16 years, and the reading goes through several parts, including comprehension, decoding, and vocabulary. The NGRT will aim to analyze these components to determine reading levels and to indicate where strength and improvement needs are.

Since the NGRT is an adaptive test, it makes the questions more challenging based on the pupil’s answer. This feature makes the test more individualized according to the student’s abilities and, therefore, a more precise measurement of his reading skills. It can be administered either in digital format or on paper, thus it gives schools flexibility in its use. Teachers and teachers use the NGRT to follow the development of their pupils and occasionally to direct teaching. Lastly, teachers can accurately determine students who will require additional time to develop mastery in reading skills or reading skills.

Originally available in print in September 2010, NGRT has four levels of testing that provide equivalent forms for students of different age groups between 6 and 16 years old. However, the digital version has made two critical changes:

Although much progress has been made, trials indicated that, on the whole, the younger students, particularly those who were in Year 1, performed lower on the digital version than on the paper version, mainly due to the challenges posed by the digital interface. Therefore, NGRT Digital is more typically recommended to be used with students in Years 2 and above.
