IBDP Global Politics

Through Global Politics, students learn important political concepts such as power, equality, sustainability, and peace, within diverse contexts and at different levels of governance.

Through the course, students will be able to apply their perception to local, national, international, and global political activity. It will also encourage them to relate political theories and practices to matters relevant to real concerns about their own lives.

Nourished in the social sciences and humanities, the course brings abstract political concepts to life using concrete, real-case-based examples and case studies. Comparisons and contrasts across global settings ensure students’ insights into broad, transnational perspectives.

International-mindedness and appreciation of diverse views are some integral elements of the course. Engaging in critical dialogue and debate, the students sharpen their capability for interpretation and analysis of various complex political claims.

Core Themes

The program, under the overarching theme of “People, Power, and Politics”, is structured around four core units:

Both SL and HL students engage in an activity of practical engagement where they investigate a political issue experientially. This involves practical learning combined with theoretical research culminating in a written report summarizing their insights and findings.

Higher-Level Specialization

In addition to the core curriculum, HL students explore two contemporary global political challenges. Using a case study approach, they gain nuanced insights into real-world issues, fostering advanced critical thinking.
